The Time Gallery

The Time Gallery gives you a history of the Earth from birth of Earth 4,600 million years ago to the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. On the stairs going up to the Time Gallery, we introduce you to the vastness of geological time and show you how we can date rocks. A timeline runs up the stairs to give you an idea of the vastness of geological time and to show how insignificant man is.

We have filled the gallery running round the upper level of the building with a series of scenes to show you how life has evolved through the history of Earth and how the continents have changed with time.

Each scene has a collection of fossils to show the sorts of creatures living in each time period. You can use this to put the 200 million year old Jurassic fossils of the main collection into some sort of perspective. Or you can just enjoy the blood and teeth of the dinosaurs!

The gallery ends with the catastrophic event that caused the dinosaurs to become extinct. The same event killed off the ammonites, belemnites, ichthyosaurs, flying reptiles and a whole host of other creatures. A catastrophic event.

But what would have happened if the dinosaurs had not become extinct? Saurian is a representation of what the dinosaurs might have evolved into if they had not become extinct. It is complete nonsense of course but there is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with science.
